WHEN I THOUGHT I WOULD HIT NOTHING
It is good to go down the memory lane each time you want to cherish those wonderful moments, those old days you loved and wanted it to last a lifetime.
if u aim at nothing, you'll hit it.. |
It is about hitting the bull’s eye or the ring closer to it that I want to put to paper. There was a time when I like a log in a stream of water kept drifting where the current led. I still love taking life as it comes. Late in high school, all of us, a bunch of girls were asked to tell their so called Goal. It was my turn and I had nothing to say. Well, I could have just said, “I want to be doc or an Engineer”, the only professions we knew that time (though we knew teaching was a profession, one never gave a thought to it). But I was true to myself when I said a ‘NO’. I was someone who kept walking where the path that I walked on led me. “If you aim at nothing, you will hit it” was the comment I got .I think it was Mr. John who made it. I remember the comment well, though I’m not sure of the name. Was I going to hit it – Nothing?
‘You good for nothing’, one would remember teachers use this to reprimand students they thought were dumb or big-headed. I did not take the comment to heart then. One thing I was clear of was that I did not have a goal. “Come on”, I told myself, “It’s nothing to worry about. Others have a goal. You don’t. Be yourself”.
It was final year at school and all I wanted was to do my best but still I had not an aim. I was all set to enter an Arts and Science college just that I had a liking for bio-technology which was in my curriculum at school. Results came. People told I could apply for engineering and that’s what I did. I always agreed to what others said cause still had not a Goal.
It was my third year at college when I suddenly thought about social work and that thought has not left my mind till now…to work for a social work organisation doing relief work, building up communities, working for the weaker section of the society. I am glad I hit upon something! After finishing my course I plan to take up a job, make money and involve in some social work besides work. Very often God’s plans differ from ours. So my prayer is ‘Let THY will be done’.
